MarkUp.io used to be the easy free option for marking up websites, images and PDFs. It removed its free tier, and paid plans now start at $79/mo. This list compares six tools on what matters after that change: price, whether a free plan exists, and which file types each one can actually review.
No credit card · Clients need no account

MarkUp.io earned its following by doing one thing well: pin a comment on a live website, an image or a PDF, then send a link so anyone can reply. For a long time that was free, which made it the default for freelancers and small studios sending the odd review to a client.
That changed. There is no longer a free plan, only a 14 day trial. Pro costs between $79 and $129 a month depending on how many reviews you need, and Business runs from $499 to $799 a month. Every plan does include unlimited users, so for a large team the maths can still work. For someone who reviews a handful of pages a month, it rarely does. The tools below are the realistic places to go, cheapest first.
Ordered by the lowest paid plan each vendor publishes. "Free plan" means a free tier that never expires, not a trial. File types are what each vendor lists on its own site.
The closest match to how MarkUp.io used to work. Paste a URL, or upload an image, PDF or Word document, click anywhere to pin a comment, then share one link. The people you send it to comment in their browser without creating an account. The free plan is small, 2 canvases with up to 5 comments on each, and Pro at $15/mo raises that to 20 canvases with unlimited comments. It does not review video.
Covers a similar spread of formats and adds mobile app review. The free Basic plan allows up to 5 users on 1 project with 5 pages and 10 comments. Pro is priced per user, so the monthly cost grows with your team rather than staying flat, which is the opposite of MarkUp.io’s unlimited users model.
A well known website review tool. The free plan keeps 1 canvas active at a time for 1 user. Pro is $35/mo, or $29/mo billed annually, for 2 users and 3 canvases. Team at $119/mo adds unlimited canvases for 5 users, with extra seats at $24 each. Every paid plan comes with a 14 day trial and no card required.
Built for development teams collecting bug reports on websites, with technical details attached and a direct path into Jira, Trello or GitHub. It reviews websites only, so if you came to MarkUp.io for images and PDFs, this covers just part of that work.
One of the longest running tools in the category, with a task board built around the feedback it collects. It reviews websites, Figma designs, PDFs and images. Annual billing brings the plans down to $42, $67 and $125 a month, and Standard includes 5 members.
Listed for reference. It still reviews the widest range of formats here, including websites, images, PDFs and video, and every plan includes unlimited users. Plans are sized by how many MarkUps you create each month, and going over your allowance costs $4 per extra MarkUp.
Pricing checked 18 September 2026 on each vendor’s own pricing page. Vendors change prices without notice, so confirm on their site before you buy. Where a tool publishes both monthly and annual billing, the monthly figure is listed first.
No trial clock. 2 canvases with up to 5 comments each, for as long as you need them.
Live web pages, images, PDFs and Word documents all use the same pin and comment workflow.
Clients open your link in their browser and comment. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
The whole scrollable page is captured, not just the part that fits on the first screen.
Mark each comment done as you fix it, and reopen anything that needs a second look.
Pro gives you 20 canvases and unlimited comments, well under MarkUp.io’s starting price.
